ATHENS — Georgia left tackle Isaiah Wynn has been sick, which is why he’s been absent from practice the past two days.

Head coach Kirby Smart described Wynn as having “a little bit of an illness.” He wasn’t sure when Wynn would return. Smart said sophomore defensive lineman Michail Carter, who has been present at practice but not participating, has also been sick.

“So we’ve held them out the last two days, and just kind of took their helmets from them so they couldn’t go,” Smart said.

Wynn was anointed as Georgia’s starting left tackle entering this spring, after two years of shifting between the two spots on the left side of the line. He started most of the 2015 and 2016 seasons at left guard, but shifted to left tackle for the final five games of his sophomore season and last year’s bowl games.

Georgia won all six of those games.

Wynn and center Lamont Gaillard, a junior who played right guard last season, are the only two returning starters on this year’s line. That’s not counting senior Dyshon Sims, who started two games at left guard last season.

Sims has been working at first-team left tackle in Wynn’s absence on Monday and Tuesday.

Two other injury notes from Smart:

  • Freshman receiver J.J. Holloman has been held out of practice after what sounds like a minor hamstring injury.
  • Freshman outside linebacker Walter Grant “should be fine” after being “dinged up” during practice.
