ATHENS — Glenn Schumann’s exact role on Kirby Smart’s new football staff isn’t defined yet, but his salary is.

Schumann will earn $225,000, according to a personnel report released by UGA through the Open Records Act.

Smart said Monday that Schumann – who was in a player development role at Alabama – would “probably” be an on-field, full-time assistant coach. Schumann’s background is on defense, where he worked closely with Smart at Alabama.

Schumann’s father Eric played defensive back for Alabama from 1979-83 and went on to a long career as a defensive coach, including defensive coordinator at UAB, Tulane and SMU.

Last year at Georgia the lowest-paid full-time assistants were running backs coach Thomas Brown and inside linebackers coach Mike Ekeler, both at $275,000. Brown will be retained by Smart, according to the parent of a recruit. Ekeler is expected to latch on at another program.
