Rasha Sherrer, whose brother is Georgia assistant football coach Kevin Sherrer, was found murdered on Tuesday, as part of what is believed to be a double homicide.

The bodies of Rasha Breann Sherrer, 36, and Gary “Sambo” Hazelrig, 43, were discovered on Tuesday afternoon inside their home in Locust Fork, Ala., about 40 miles north of Birmingham. Both had been shot. They were last seen alive on Monday morning, and family and friends had been unable to reach them, according to Al.com.

Hazelrig’s father, Joe Mack Hazelrig, was the former schools superintendent of Bount County.

Kevin Sherrer left Georgia to be with his family and was not at Wednesday’s practice. Brian Williams, a player relations coordinator for the defense, was working with the outside linebackers in Sherrer’s absence.

Kevin Sherrer is now in his second year at Georgia, where he coaches the Sam linebackers and the star. A former Alabama tight end, Sherrer later served as a graduate assistant and player development coordinator at Alabama, and also coached at two Birmingham-area high schools. He was the defensive coordinator at South Alabama prior to joining Georgia’s staff.

Georgia head coach Mark Richt said that Kevin Sherrer is expected back on Thursday, but indicated that could change if need be.

“Whatever he needs to do to help, just be there for his family, we want him to do that,” Richt said. “There’s no time limit on that. Whatever you’ve gotta do, go do it. We’ll handle it till you come back.”
