Here’s what Southern coaches and players thought about Saturday’s 48-6 loss to Georgia:

Coach Dawson Odums: “A lot of it came down to me versus you. In that battle, when ‘me’ is better than ‘you,’ ‘me’ wins the 1-on-1. That happens a lot. This is SEC football. I think the third quarter, they showed you big-boy football. They showed you why they play in the SEC. It came down to winning 1-one-1’s. In the first half we were able to get 2-one-1. In the third quarter, it was 1-on-1, and they won the 1-on-1’s.”

Defensive tackle Gabe Echols on stopping Nick Chubb: “He’s a good back. You can’t tackle him up high. You have to go down low because he will bounce you off. But for the most part, a great running back. We knew coming in he was going to be a load.”

Running back Lenard Tillery on Chubb and Sony Michel: “Chubb is a Heisman candidate and Michel as well. They are two great athletes. Whenever you are going against them, you feel like you are just like them. They are trying to get to the next level, and I am trying to go to the next level. They love playing football and I love playing football. Whenever you are going in to it, you want to go up against them and hopefully outdo them.”

Defensive tackle Daniel Brown: “We were doing the same thing as we were in the first half. We just weren’t capitalizing on our opportunities. We missed some tackles and went high on some big backs. They are some strong, elusive backs. … They also capitalized on a couple of play actions. It was there for us, we just didn’t capitalize on the opportunity.”
