Knoxville, Tenn.–Georgia star running back Nick Chubb suffered a knee injury on the first play of the game at Tennessee on Saturday. Here is some reaction from coaches and players:
“Our hearts and prayers go out to him. He’s a great player and he’s done a lot for that program and we love watching him play. Our hearts and prayers go out to him, and we wish him a speedy and well recovery.”
Tennessee quarterback Joshua Dobbs
“Nick getting hurt on play one wasn’t very exciting to see at all. He was in pain, physical and mental pain knowing that he wasn’t going to be able to finish out this game. He put so much work into it. ”
Georgia coach Mark Richt
“I don’t think anybody just dropped their head and said ‘the game’s over,’ by any stretch. But everybody loves Nick Chubb. Everybody respects Nick Chubb. I am sure Bulldog nation’s heart sank when you see a guy like that on the sideline. He is a true warrior when it comes to playing football, and he is one of the finest people we have on this team.”
Richt
“I talked to him a little bit on the sideline. He was in good spirits. I knew that I had to go in there and play his role and play the game for him. I’ve always been preparing for this moment. He prepared me for this moment.”
Georgia running back Sony Michel
“You never want to see any of that stuff happen. You never think about it, but he’s probably the least deserving person for something like that to happen to. It was tough but we obviously had 59 minutes and 30 seconds left in the ballgame. It’s a next man up mentality.”
Georgia quarterback Greyson Lambert
“The game had just started and we had so much adrenaline going for the game. We had to keep moving on and moving forward. A lot of us prayed for him and saw how he was doing and went over there and tried to check up on him but we had to move on.”
Lambert
“He’ll battle back. Nick is a warrior. The only way to explain or understand how hard he works is to see it for yourself. To talk about it doesn’t do justice.”
Georgia wide receiver Malcolm Mitchell
“Seems like the last few years they’ve lost a running back against us. They say in football those type of things happen. Sometimes they happen to us, sometimes they happen to them. You got to be able to move on to the next and you got to prepare for the next back they bring in.”
Tennessee linebacker Jalen Reeves-Maybin
