This topic was already covered thoroughly by DawgNation’s Connor Riley: NFL superstars Todd Gurley and Sony Michel were asked to rank their top three all-time running backs in UGA history by the Bleacher’s Report’s Lefkoe Show.
And the rankings by the two former UGA running backs may surprise you.
No. 1, however, was very easy. It’s the same running back – who more than 35 years later – remains the face of the Bulldogs football program. It’s Herschel Walker, who is also arguably the greatest college football player of all-time.
The next one? This one may surprise some people, simply due to the fact that both Gurley and Michel unanimously agreed.
It’s Nick Chubb.
What a nice compliment for Chubb by his peers, because – let’s face it – UGA has had a lot of stellar running backs through the years, hence the “RBU.” moniker.
Is Chubb worthy? Despite suffering a season-ending knee injury as a sophomore, Chubb finished his decorated UGA career as the second-best in school history in both career rushing yards and career rushing touchdowns … to that guy named Herschel.
Actually Chubb may not be a surprise at all, considering he may be UGA’s most popular player in the last 10 years because of his down-to-earth personality and blue-collar work ethic – along with his ridiculous success. It’s hard to find a more likeable guy in the spotlight like that.
What about No. 3? Gurley and Michel – surprisingly or not surprisingly – picked each other.
Now it’s your turn. How would you rank the top five UGA running backs of all-time? (Note: If you don’t have Herschel No. 1, your ballot is disqualified). Some other worthy candidates to consider: Garrison Hearst, Sony Michael, Knowshon Moreno, Terrell Davis, Lars Tate, Rodney Hampton, Charley Tripp, Heisman winner Frank Sinkwich, Robert Edwards, and Tim Worley.
Please post your top five below.
