MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Georgia will be losing a key offensive player to the NFL draft after all.
Junior receiver Isaiah McKenzie and punt returner revealed after Friday’s Liberty Bowl win that he will enter the NFL draft.
“I’m declaring,” McKenzie said.
McKenzie was Georgia’s leading receiver this season and in Friday’s game, when he hauled in a 77-yard pass to set up Georgia’s first touchdown.
“I thought about it, and things like that. I just thought about it. I talked to coach Smart. I talked to the coaching staff,” McKenzie said. “I just came up with a decision and made it myself. I talked to my mother when I flew back home. I just decided to (declare.)”
McKenzie, listed at 5-foot-8 and 175 pounds, is from Miami, Fla. He leaves Georgia the school’s record for punt return touchdowns (five) and total return touchdowns (six). He finishes his career with 823 receiving yards on 60 catches, and seven touchdown catches, as well as 329 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns.
McKenzie said he hasn’t received feedback from the NFL on his potential draft position yet.
“Hopefully it’s good, and I’m just going to go out there and do my best,” McKenzie said.
