ATLANTA — Georgia was already dealing with a depleted defensive line, as the Bulldogs are without Jordan Hall and Xzavier McLeod. Then on the second drive of the game, Warren Brinson went down with an injury and had to be helped off the field.
Brinson had been dealing with an Achilles injury throughout camp. Georgia coach Kirby Smart had given a positive update on Brinson prior to Saturday’s game.
“Warren looks good,” Smart said earlier in the week. “He’s practiced every day we’ve practiced for Clemson. He’s done a good job. He didn’t get the luxury of going through camp, which, to me, camp is what you build your foundation on, so he missed some time in camp. But he also has had four camps in his time at Georgia, so it’s not like it’s his first go-round in terms of that.”
Brinson elected to return to Georgia for a fifth season and is expected to be a significant contributor on GEorgia’s defense line.
Georgia started Christen Miller and Nazir Stackhouse at defensive tackle. The Bulldogs could also slide Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins in at the position as well to provide depth. Georgia does have freshmen it could turn to in Jamaal Jarrett, Jordan Thomas, Nasir Johnson and Nnamdi Ogboko.
Georgia forced back-to-back punts to start the game.
