Georgia basketball-Temple preview
Georgia got a win in Tom Crean’s official debut, as the Bulldogs rolled up 110 points. Georgia had five players finish in double figures and were led by sophomore Teshaun Hightower with 18 points.
Sophomore Nicolas Claxton also had a strong game, as he finished with 15 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Claxton is expected to take on a bigger role this season, and his first game certainly showed that he is up to the task. Georgia also saw junior Tyree Crump come off the bench and hit 4 3-pointers for Georgia, while sophomore forward Rayshaun Hammonds added 9 points and 9 rebounds.
The game against Temple should be much tougher, given that Temple won’t attempt 57 3-point attempts like Savannah State did. The Owls and coach Fran Dunphy are led by senior guard Shizz Alston Jr., who has averaged 21.5 points per game in the Owls’ first two wins. Temple is also getting 16.0 points per game from junior forward Quinton Rose.
These two teams met last season, with the Bulldogs winning 84-66 in Athens. Yante Maten scored 30 points in the win for Georgia that day.
After the Bulldogs take on Temple, they will return home to take on Sam Houston State. Georgia will then head to the Cayman Islands for the Thanksgiving holidays to take part in the Cayman Island Classic. Georgia did have some trouble getting to Philadelphia, as they forced to be grounded in South Carolina due to a runway issue. The team will fly up to Philadelphia on Tuesday morning.
