While multiple outlets have reported that Georgia is going to retain assistant coach Jonas Hayes, sources tell DawgNation’s Seth Emerson that it is not yet a done deal.

Hayes is regarded as an excellent recruiter, and he has landed a number of key players in recent years such as Yante Maten and Ashton Hagans, the No. 1 point guard in the 2019 class. Hagans. Hagans de-committed amid uncertainty about then-coach Mark Fox’s job security.

Hagans figures to be a priority recruit for Crean; he is the No. 1 prospect in the state for the 2019 class. The point guard also is open to the possibility of reclassifying and joining the 2018 class.

There have been reports that Hayes is on the recruiting trail with Crean, despite no official word about Crean deciding to keep Hayes on staff.

Hayes played at Georgia from 2001-04 and served as an assistant coach on Fox’s staff for five seasons.

Prior to arriving at Georgia, Crean coached at Marquette and Indiana. He took Marquette to a Final Four in 2003, and he rebuilt the Indiana program and took the Hoosiers to three Sweet 16 appearances.
