ATHENS — Many of Georgia’s top basketball targets will clash at the “Battle For Georgia” at the LakePoint Champions Center on Sunday.
The Bulldogs have at least four scholarships to offer in the 2020 class, and could have more depending on if any current players go pro early or elect to transfer.
Deivon Smith, a 2020 Class prospect who plays point guard for the Atlanta Celtics 17U, is one of many who holds an offer from Coach Tom Crean.
Smith is the No. 5-ranked point guard in the nation and No. 48 -ranked player overall.
Louisville, Alabama, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Miami are considered among Smith’s early leaders.
Combo guard K.D. Johnson is another 2020 Class prospect, and another recruit Crean has offered.
Georgia is thought to be in a great position with Johnson, but Seton Hall, Mississippi State and Georgia Tech are still recruiting him.
Auburn coach Bruce Pearl is also pursuing the combo guard who plays for the “Game Elite” team.
Jabari Smith, a 6-foot-9 rising junior in the 2021 Class, is sure to attract plenty of attention. Smith is the No. 1-ranked player in Georgia in his class and is No. 15 in the nation overall.
Both Georgia and Georgia Tech have already offered Smith, and so have Kansas, LSU, Florida State and Auburn.
Smith’s recruitment will continue to escalate into his senior year, with other national championship contenders sure to make a push for him during the recruiting process.
The Peach State’s top eight travel teams in the 15-and-under ranks along with 16u and 17u starting at 10:30 a.m. and running all day in Emerson, Ga., just north of Atlanta.
Georgia’s Anthony “Antman” Edwards played in this same event a year ago, and more of tomorrow’s future stars are also scheduled to compete and likely on Coach Tom Crean’s radar:
