Freshman Robert Loeb and sophomore Jan Zielinski of the Georgia men’s tennis team fell in a third-set tiebreaker against Oklahoma’s Andrew Harris and Spencer Papa in the NCAA Doubles Championship on Monday.
The Bulldogs’ tandem, which was the No. 1 seed in the tournament, was successful in taking the first set of the match 6-4 in front of the home crowd at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
However, the Sooners’ duo — ranked 15th nationally — took the second set 6-2 before prevailing 10-6 in the tiebreaker.
On Sunday, Loeb and Zielinski advanced to the finals after their win over TCU’s Jerry Lopez and Reese Stalder.
It was the sixth time in school history that Georgia was represented in the NCAA Doubles Championship. The Bulldogs’ most recent title came in 2005, when the combo of John Isner and Antonio Ruiz took the crown.
