Want to attack every day with the latest Georgia football recruiting info? That’s the Intel. This rep has the latest with 5-star Landen Thomas. He ranks as the nation’s No. 1 TE and the No. 24 overall prospect for 2024 on the 247Sports Composite ratings.
==========================================
Landen Thomas had been committed to Georgia’s 2024 class since last July.
Had. We need to use that word now. That’s because the nation’s No. 1 TE prospect for the 2024 cycle has opted to de-commit from the back-to-back national champions and flip to FSU.
The Colquitt County standout made that move official today after another visit to check out Tallahassee over the weekend.
The decision drops UGA down to 11 commitments in the 2024 cycle. The Bulldogs now fall from their long-held status as the nation’s No. 1 recruiting class on the 247Sports Composite rating after the decision.
Ohio State, boosted by its eight commitments over the last three weeks, now takes over the No. 1 class for the 247Sports Team Composite rankings.
Thomas had been the second highest-rated commitment in this class for Georgia.
The move affects the future of a position of extreme strength for the ‘Dawgs. While Brock Bowers is expected to hear his name very early in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, there will still be plenty of All-American depth behind him.
All-American TE Oscar Delp will just be a junior next fall. He’s expected to be Georgia’s No. 2 TE out of the gate this season behind Bowers. True freshman Lawson Luckie, another former All-American, was one of the very bright spots for Georgia during spring drills.
Luckie has a very bright future playing that position for Georgia.
Georgia also has Pearce Spurlin III on campus as an early enrollee. Spurlin, a Georgia legacy, was ranked as the nation’s No. 2 overall TE for the 2024 cycle. The former All-American was sidelined for the majority of spring practice with a broken collar bone.
The Bulldogs also picked up a commitment last week from 5-star Elyiss Williams. Williams is the No. 1 TE prospect for the 2025 cycle at this time and another All-American prospect.
The loss of Thomas isn’t easily offset, but the Bulldogs have perhaps the only depth chart and future depth chart at tight end to weather the de-commit and flip.
With this decision, the Bulldogs will now place even more priority on signing two TE prospects in the class.
The biggest names to look for there are now 4-star Missouri TE Jaden Redell and in-state TE Amir Jackson at Portal High School. Reddell, a Missouri native, is the nation’s No. 4 TE and No. 62 overall prospect at that position. He’s already been to check out UGA this spring and plans to return for an official visit.
Reddell was already a priority for Georgia in the 2024 class with Thomas in it. He’s rated as the nation’s No. 1 TE prospect for this class at this time for On3.com.
Jackson is a very talented in-state prospect. The feeling here is the 4-star recruit is very undervalued right now despite being ranked No. 154 overall nationally.
Aside from Thomas and those two, the Bulldogs have been very selective with their offers at that position in this cycle. The Bulldogs have only offered a total of six TEs nationally for 2024.
