ATHENS — ESPN’s latest College Football Playoff prediction is in, and — stop the presses — Georgia is the favorite.

Georgia has a 79.1 percent chance of making the 12-team College Football Playoffs, per ESPN’s “FPI” ratings, and a 21-percent chance of winning the national title.

ESPN college football playoff expert Heather Dinich penned the latest ESPN pay-site article breaking down the 30 teams that can reach the postseason.

“Even with a plethora of NFL talent gone, this team is again going to be loaded. It starts offensively with the return of quarterback Carson Beck and his coordinator, Mike Bobo,” Dinich writes.

“They should have one of the best offensive lines in the country to work with. Defensively, Georgia has depth at linebacker and a star in Mykel Williams, and safety Malaki Starks is one of the best in the country.”

The ESPN expert notes the UGA schedule is such that “it’s probably unrealistic” to project an undefeated season, but winning the SEC Championship Game is doable.

ESPN projects Georgia to have a 33-percent chance of winning the SEC Championship Game.

The Dinich article has Oregon No. 2 with a 76 percent chance of making the playoff and a 12.8 percent chance of winning the national title.
