On Monday night, the Georgia women’s basketball team defeated Ole Miss 78-56 to move to 15-10(6-6 in SEC play). Not even 12 hours after the game had ended, head coach Joni Taylor gave birth to her second child, Drew Simone Taylor, at 7:29 a.m. Tuesday in Athens.
Drew Simone Taylor is 20 inches long and weighs 6 pounds, 8 ounces. She is Taylor’s second daughter, as Jacie Elise Taylor was born on Nov. 3, 2016. Both Joni Taylor and Drew Simone Taylor are resting comfortably according to statement provided by the University of Georgia.
“Darius (Taylor’s husband) and I feel so blessed to be the parents of such a sweet little girl, and I know Jacie is thrilled to be a big sister,” Taylor said. “I can’t express how much joy Drew has already brought to our family. We want to thank everyone in the Georgia community for your prayers and encouragement during this happy season of our lives. I am thrilled that Drew will be surrounded by so many special people, and that she will be a part of the Bulldog family.”
Associate head coach Karen Lange will take over Taylor’s coaching duties for the time being. A plan for Taylor’s return to the sidelines will be announced at a later date. Georgia has just four regular season games left in the 2018-19 season. The Lady Bulldogs host Arkansas on Thursday, with tip set for 7:00 p.m. ET.
